The House of the Future, a project by Chriet Titulaer, was opened in Rosmalen in the summer of 1989. The aim of the House of the Future was to give ordinary citizens an idea of how smart technology, called home automation, could be applied in the daily living environment.

The focus was on how the use of and interaction with a house could change in the future.

The house, which was located in the Autotron in Rosmalen, was equipped with the most modern architectural and technological innovations, including a central vacuum cleaner system, solar cells and voice recognition. But apparently we have already arrived in the future, because many of the houses of the future have already closed.

Such as the House of the Future in Rosmalen, which was converted into a party location in 1999 after the contracts with the suppliers expired, thus losing the original purpose of the house.

Unfortunately, there are few places in the Netherlands and Belgium where you can view a “house of the future”.

##Amsterdam

There was once a [House of the Future] in Amsterdam ( https://www.architectenweb.nl/aweb/archipedia/archipedia.asp?ID=9342) . This House of the Future was a futuristic house on the ArenA Boulevard in Amsterdam South East. It opened in 2004, but unfortunately closed its doors in 2008.

Special at that time were the technical gadgets, such as a virtual hostess that registers and registers all guests, a bathroom mirror that provides the latest news and traffic jam notifications, a refrigerator that registers its own stock, a washing machine that scans and recognizes clothing and finally an intelligent climate control system that manages the entire house.

These gadgets are already starting to find their way to ‘ordinary’ citizens.
