You no longer have to go to an expensive hotel or a spa to experience comfort for yourself. If you search the internet you will quickly find a number of definitions of comfort:
- “What is comfortable and pleasant”
- “A feeling of ease and satisfaction of physical needs, completely free from pain or anxiety”
- “Comforting, strengthening”
- “State in which one is without anxiety, fear or shyness”
But what does this actually mean?
What does comfort mean to you?

Comfort is an indication of a situation in which the human condition is experienced as pleasant; a state of well-being, and which is also characterized by the absence of unpleasantness. It is a state of being in which a person does not have to make any effort to feel good.
Comfort is a feeling of well-being that has three origins (physical, functional and psychological).

In other words, this can differ per person. What is a convenience for one person may be an inconvenience for another. Maybe for you it means sitting nice and cozy on the couch with a good glass of wine. For someone else, it means warming yourself at a wood stove or simply being able to get up from your chair without pain. Ultimately, you are the one who experiences and determines what is comfortable and pleasant. As mentioned, comfort means something different for everyone. How nice it would be to have a checklist for this, but unfortunately. You’ll have to discover it for yourself.
Fortunately, there are sites such as https://ajelsinga.nl . I write about things that can increase your comfort. Think of a sunshower or home automation.
Is comfort allowed?
Dutch people are undoubtedly familiar with the expressions ‘Just act normal, that’s crazy enough’ and ‘I don’t need that, it’s not necessary anyway’. This is often also said about things that increase comfort, such as a dishwasher, dryer or home automation. If we were to apply this line of thought to everything, we would still drive a horse and cart, do the laundry by hand instead of a washing machine and use oil lamps instead of electric lighting.
Fortunately, we no longer have to wash by hand and we travel by car or bus. This progress is no longer even seen as ‘convenience’, but has become normal. This will undoubtedly also be the case with facilities and options that increase comfort.
I hope that the stories on my site will give you direction in your search.
