I had been on the fence about it for a long time: Shall I or shall I not buy a 360-degree camera. Ultimately, I made a decision: I just had to have it: The Insta360 One X2.

By now, I have made a few videos while [running]/en/2021/geen-zin-in-hardlopen/ and during a car ride. Both, I have revisited in virtual reality. I must say: That definitely adds a whole new dimension.
Other ‘gadgets’ in the toolbox
My first experience is quite good. The device is easy to use, the ‘invisible selfie stick’ gets nicely stowed away. Of course, there are some downsides as well. Towards the edges of the ‘sphere’, the quality does drop slightly. Which is to be expected, as the pixels in your photo get ‘stretched’ to create a 2D-like image.
First experience with the Insta360 One X2
In the meanwhile, I have gathered quite a few things for my visual hobbies:
- A Canon 90D camera
- A DJI Mavic Air 2 drone
- DJI Osmo Action cam
- Filters, lenses, including a Canon EF 100-400
- Various tripods and monopods
- A DJI RSC2 gimbal
- A DJI Osmo Mobile gimbal
And now, the Insta360 One X2 has been added to the list.
Maybe I will write a more detailed review of the Insta360 One X2 in the future. First, I want to play around with the camera a bit more.
Do you really need all those gadgets?
“But AJ, do they help you take better photos and videos?” Well, hmm, that’s a loaded question. I am far from outgrowing the amateur level. When I look around, I see people producing stuff with the simplest camera that makes me a bit jealous. So no, I don’t think owning all those gadgets makes me a better photographer, certainly not.
You could question if all those purchases are worth it, but that’s not the point in my opinion.
Yet, I am happy with my new Insta360 One X2. I finally have the possibility to make 360-degree photos and videos and view them back in virtual reality.
