Robotic mowers and mulching

I’ve said it before, but we’re almost going to buy a robotic lawnmower. Good thing, too. I don’t really hate mowing the lawn, but I can imagine that I’m going to hate it. I think 800 m2 of grass that you have to mow once or twice a week gets boring quickly. In principle it already does that.

That is why we have decided that a robotic lawnmower will be available soon.

robot lawn mower choice

Which robot lawn mower it will be has still been a search. As mentioned earlier, it must meet a number of conditions:

  • is suitable for at least 800m2
  • must be able to mulch
  • has anti-theft functions (minimum PIN code)
  • Preferably he works systematically rather than randomly, so that everything is neatly mowed
  • It can handle multiple zones with grass
  • it goes to its charging station itself when necessary
  • a WiFi+app would be a nice plus

After a few evenings of browsing, deliberation, we ended up at Robomow . The main reason for choosing Robomow is that the blade is placed off-center. This cuts the grass in the same line as the wheels. The promise is that few corners need to be mowed.

After more comparing, and comparing prices, we made a short list. The choice fell on the RC308U, RC308Pro or the RS615Pro.

After a lot of deliberation, we opted for the RC308Pro. This was not only due to the price difference between the RC308 and the RS615, but also due to the fact that the RC308Pro has a 3-year warranty. It also has a GPS module, so that the device transmits status information to Robomow and you can see (remotely) what is going on with the device.

The RC308U had the advantage that the package also included 200m of wire and wire pins, but in our opinion that did not outweigh the three-year warranty and the option for remote support.

We choose to have the device installed by a professional. I would undoubtedly figure it out, but will it work as it should? That’s the question.

What did you say, mulching?

Yes, indeed, mulching. Mulch is a layer of organic material that you cover the soil with. Due to the rotting process, this layer provides nutrition for the grass. The grass is then cut into small pieces. This means you no longer have to clean up the grass. Big plus.
