New Tech Vintage Nerds | A new podcast

Every now and then, I get the itch to try something different. Considering my hobbies and unfinished projects, this isn’t anything special for me. However, my friend and colleague Alex felt the same way. We were both bloggers at VMGuru, but last month, we officially laid it to rest. We’ve worked with moving images and sound in the past (see Youtube VMGuru ).

Videos

We’ve been around for a while. During our active VMGuru days, we created quite a few videos, especially when attending VMworld (a user event for VMware products), such as several road trip videos, like our trip to Copenhagen in 2010 . I also frequently conducted interviews with other VMGurus, like the interview with fellow blogger Dimitri de Swart .

And tinkering was not strange to us during VMGuru times, such as modifying a [coffee machine]/en/2015/barista-as-a-service-with-vrealize-orchestrator for a demo by Erik Scholten , making it controllable via a VMware automation tool. Alex and I, as TAMs, have also recorded and edited a few things for work. But, editing videos takes a long time. Or at least, when I do it, because I strive to the best of the best, although I don’t have the expertise for it.

Hence, a podcast

I mean… we are influencers, of course. For our jobs, we’re busy helping customers use VMware software optimally, occasionally employing some ‘influencer techniques’. So we thought making a podcast would be a good idea. And thus, New Tech, Vintage Nerds, or in short NTVN was born. So when Alex exclaimed at hearing a podcast, “Hey, you and I could do that too!” it wasn’t weird that I said, “When do we start?”

What it’s not about

Before we recorded that very first podcast (or actually more the introduction of the podcast), obviously, we had some things to discuss. Both of us can talk for hours if not days, but it must remain enjoyable for the listener. Otherwise, we might not have listeners other than Alex and me.

The most important decision we made is: “It’s not going to be about enterprise tech.” Knowing us, we’ll probably make a podcast about that at some point, but that’s absolutely not the idea.

Then what’s it about?

New Tech, Vintage Nerds is a fresh podcast hosted by two seasoned tech enthusiasts with decades of experience. It invites listeners on an audacious journey of stories in tech wizardry, deep discussions, and humorous takes on tech culture. Sync up for a regular dose of discovery with two nerds who’ve lived through tech’s evolution and remain at its forefront.

In other words, it’s about everything, especially nerd stuff. It’s likely to often include smart home and automation topics, given Alex works with Homey and I with Home Assistant .

In conclusion

If all of this hasn’t scared you off, come and have a listen. Visit https://ntvn.online or search “New Tech, Vintage Nerds” in your favorite podcast app or on Youtube .

That pretty much sums it all up.
