That the Internet of Things (IoT) has become indispensable in modern installations is something we can now conclude. Where IoT previously belonged mainly to the domain of the ’tinkerer’ or of large companies, that is no longer the case. With the introduction of IoT controllers by switching material suppliers, IoT comes within the reach of the average person.
This is also the case with Hager. Hager has introduced an IoT controller that serves as a gateway between KNX and various IoT possibilities, the TJA560. With the IoT controller, you can link KNX components to IP-based components, such as Netatmo, Amazon Echo, Philips Hue, and Sonos. You can also use services like IFTTT (If This Then That), which allows you to program an action-reaction: If the temperature at home is higher than 25 degrees and someone is home, then open the windows.
The TJA560 takes up little space with its width of 6 modules. The settings of the controller are available via a web browser, but knowledge of ETS5 is necessary for the link with KNX.
The recommended price for the TJA560 is EUR 799 (excl. VAT).
What is the Internet of Things
Computers can exchange information with each other via the internet. This could be seen as the Internet of Computers. With the Internet of Things, it is no different. We ensure that things can exchange information with each other via the internet, or the Internet of Things. Each device (or thing) gets access to the internet. With this, you can do smart things, such as your alarm clock going off half an hour earlier because the weather conditions have worsened. This gives you more time, so you’re not late, despite the traffic. The moment you leave the house, a light on your umbrella could blink, so you don’t forget it. After all, rain is predicted later in the day.
