Gutenberg in WordPress, what is it?

In a next version of WordPress a new editor will be used: Gutenberg. The idea is that this editor is based on a block system, which would make it easier to create pages and posts.
This post was also created with Gutenberg. And I must say that it works quite well. It’s different than usual, but it still feels logical. At least for me.
When you press enter, a new block is automatically created. You can also add blocks yourself by clicking on a +. You can then choose between various predefined blocks, such as a paragraph, a title or an image. But you can also place quotes, lists, cover images and videos this way.
Yet it is not all successful yet. For example, the preview doesn’t work (at least for me) and the difference between draft and publish is confusing. I have already posted the article regularly while I wanted to do a save draft.

Text over an image has also become fairly simple, as you can see. These kinds of things make it interesting to produce texts.
Creating texts in columns is now also very easy. This means you don’t have to do difficult things in your theme, but you can use the possibilities of WordPress itself.
What disappoints me is that you cannot use the other blocks in columns. So you cannot add an image to a block. In the total of blocks, but then it is placed under the columns.
Conclusion
Editing pages and articles with WordPress becomes very easy. It may be a small learning curve for some people, but the possibilities are enormous. Especially when plugins start supporting the possibilities of Gutenberg by being able to use actions and hooks per block. Before that happens, a lot will still have to be done. While typing this article, I frequently received an error message, items were not working completely.
Do you want to get started with Gutenberg yourself? That’s possible. You can install the Gutenberg plugin to get you started. Keep in mind that it is not all cake and egg yet.
Do you prefer a stable editor? Then wait patiently until version 5.0, because if the stars are right, it will contain Gutenberg.
